Information about Natalizumab
Natalizumab Uses
Natalizumab is used in the treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS).
How Natalizumab works
Certain immune cells (T cells) are known to attack the protective sheath (myelin) around the nerves and cause disabling effects in multiple sclerosis. Natalizumab works by binding to T cells and preventing their entry into the brain and spinal cord. This slows disease progression and reduces the number of attacks in multiple sclerosis.

Expert advice for Natalizumab
- Natalizumab is used to treat multiple sclerosis.
- It is given once every 4 weeks, as a drip into a vein (by intravenous infusion), usually in your arm.
- It may increase your risk of getting infections. Inform your doctor immediately if you get any signs of infection such as fever, sore throat, mouth ulcers, rash or severe diarrhea while taking this medicine.
- Inform your doctor if you develop symptoms of liver damage such as abdominal pain, loss of appetite, darkened urine or yellowing of the eyes or skin.
- Do not stop treatment without talking to your doctor. You are more likely to experience an allergic reaction if you restart treatment after a gap of three or more months.
