Description
 
The urinary system is the body's drainage system for removing wastes and extra water. It includes two kidneys, two ureters, a bladder, and a urethra. Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are the second most common type of infection in the body.
 
Signs and Symptoms 
 
Common symptoms include,
1. Pain or burning when you urinate
2. Fever
3. Tiredness
4. Shakiness
5. An urge to urinate often
6. Pressure in your lower belly
7. Urine that smells bad or looks cloudy or reddish
8. Pain in your back or side below the ribs
 
Causes and Risk Factors
 
People of any age or sex can get UTIs. However, you are at an increased risk of the infection if:
1. You are a woman
2. You have diabetes
3. Need a tube to drain your bladder
4. Or have had a spinal cord injury
 
Investigations 
 
Your doctor will suggest a urine test.
 
Treatment 
 
Treatment is with antibiotics.
