Definition
Polio is an infectious disease caused by a virus. The virus lives in an infected person's throat and intestines.
Causes and Risk Factors
Risk factors are:
1. Spread by contact with the stool of an infected person
2. Droplets if an infected person sneezes or coughs
3. Contaminated hands
Signs and Symptoms
Most people have no symptoms. If you have symptoms, they may include:
1. Fever
2. Fatigue
3. Nausea
4. Headache
5. Flu-like symptoms
6. Stiff neck and back
7. Pain in the limbs
8. Paralysis
Treatment
There is no treatment to reverse the paralysis of polio. However, polio drops are given to the children under their childhood.
