Chikungunya IgG
Understanding Chikungunya IgG
What is Chikungunya IgG?
Chikungunya is a viral infection transmitted through the bite of an infected mosquito characterized by symptoms like an abrupt onset of fever, frequently accompanied by joint pain. Chikungunya IgG test helps to diagnose recent or past infections caused by the chikungunya virus. This test checks for the presence of IgG antibodies against the chikungunya virus. These antibodies are detectable 4 to 8 days following the onset of symptoms. This test helps to differentiate from other febrile illnesses like dengue, malaria etc., showing similar symptoms. The presence of IgG antibodies indicates a recent infection (less than 5 days). There is no specific antiviral medicine for chikungunya. However, clinical management primarily targets relieving symptoms, including joint pain, using appropriate medicines.
