What is Copper, Serum?
This test measures the amount of copper in the body. It helps in diagnosing the diseases caused due to abnormal levels of copper in the body such as wilson disease, osteoporosis and anemia. Copper playes an important role in vital body functions including building strong bones, producing energy, and making melanin.
Symptoms of excess of copper (copper poisoning) in the body include jaundice, nausea, abdominal pain, troubled swallowing or walking, tremors, behavioral changes. While the deficiency is manifested by pale skin, low levels of white blood cells, weakening of bones, fatigue, tingling in hands and feet.
Normal levels of copper is 1.6-2.4 μmol/L.
