Understanding Mumps Virus Antibody IgG
What is Mumps Virus Antibody IgG?
Mumps Virus Antibody IgG assay is used for the laboratory diagnosis of Mumps virus infection. Mumps is a highly infectious viral disease which is transmitted through inhalation of infected respiratory droplets or secretions.
The test is prescribed in case of symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle pain, and swelling of salivary glands.
The presence of detectable IgG-class antibodies indicates prior exposure to the mumps virus through infection or immunization. Individuals testing positive are considered immune to the mumps virus. whereas the absence of detectable IgG antibodies suggests a lack of specific immune response to immunization and no previous exposure to the virus.
