Lotica Cream is used to treat and prevent problems in your nose (rhinitis) which may be seasonal (like hay fever) or year-round (like blocked nose, sneezing and itching). It works by reducing swelling and irritation in your nose and belongs to a group of medicines called corticosteroids.

Quick tips

  • The right way to use the nasal spray:
    • Shake the bottle before using the medicine. 
    • Clean your nose thoroughly before using the medicine.
    • Insert the bottle tip into one nostril and close the other nostril. 
    • Direct the spray towards the sides of your nostril, away from the cartilage dividing the two sides of your nose. 
    • Breathe out gently through your mouth and repeat the same process for the other nostril.
  • Avoid deep breathing as it will cause medication to go back to the throat and make it less effective.
  • Do not share the bottle with anyone else so that you do not spread germs.
  • Lotica Cream should be avoided in patients with recent nasal ulcers, nasal surgery, or nasal trauma.

Depression is a persistent state of sadness that is the result of interaction between one's inner biological and psychological state and gets triggered of with environmental stressors. Reactive depression is in response to a situation like loss, sickness, trauma etc. Endogenous depression occurs without any noticeable environmental stressors. Psychological symptoms include lack of interest, negative thinking, irritability, frustration, feeling demotivated etc. Somatic symptoms like fatigue/ weakness/ lack of sleep/ lack of appetite and other physical symptoms are common. Anxiety is common. In severe cases one may feel helpless and hopeless enough to wish for death or attempt suicide. Treatment includes physical and psychiatric work up following which medicines can be prescribed. In milder cases, psychotherapy or counselling is recommended.

How does Lotica Cream work?

Lotica Cream is a corticosteroid, which works by decreasing the inflammation caused by allergies. It reduces inflammation by blocking the release of certain natural substances that cause allergic symptoms such as swelling, redness and pain.

How long does Lotica Cream take to start working?

The time required by Lotica Cream to start showing its effects may differ from person to person. Usually, it starts showing relief within 8 hours of starting Lotica Cream. It may even take several days before you see maximum benefits. In order to improve your symptoms faster, it is important to take the medicine regularly as it increases efficiency of the medicine.

My friend developed a severe allergic reaction when she started Lotica Cream. Could it be due to Lotica Cream even though it is used for allergy purpose?

In very rare cases, Lotica Cream can cause serious allergic reactions such as rash, hives, breathing difficulty, swelling of the face, throat, and tongue. It may also cause low blood pressure which may further cause lightheadedness and the patient may even faint. You should immediately contact your doctor if you experience any of these symptoms as it could be life threatening.

My brother developed chickenpox while using Lotica Cream. Can Lotica Cream be responsible for chickenpox? What should be done?

Lotica Cream being a corticosteroid weakens the immune system of the body. It could have because of this that your brother developed chickenpox. You should immediately stop the medication and contact the doctor. The doctor may consider treating it with antiviral agents.

For how long should I take Lotica Cream?

It is recommended that you take the nasal spray as long as you are exposed to the allergen. Consult your doctor if you have any concerns.

Does long-term use of Lotica Cream have any side effects?

Usual doses of Lotica Cream can be tolerated by most people for long periods of time. But, few people may develop nose bleed, hole in nasal cartilage, and visual disturbances due to cataract or glaucoma if they take Lotica Cream for a long time. Moreover, high doses also tend to increase the risk of weakening of bones (osteoporosis) and diabetes.

What is thrush? Can Lotica Cream cause thrush?

Thrush is a fungal infection of the nose and throat caused by candida. Lotica Cream can cause thrush as a common side effect. To avoid getting fungal infections, you should thoroughly rinse your mouth after using a nasal spray. If you experience any redness or white colored patches in your nose or mouth, inform your doctor.

Can I take Lotica Cream for runny nose and sneezing due to common cold?

No, Lotica Cream is only meant for allergic rhinitis and should not be taken for common cold. Symptoms of common cold can be due to viral infection and this medicine does not cure such infections. Therefore, you may not benefit from Lotica Cream.
