Megagyl Syrup is a combination medicine that is used to treat diarrhea and dysentery. It prevents the growth of microorganisms to treat the infection.

Megagyl Syrup is a combination of two antibiotics: Megagyl Syrup1 and Megagyl Syrup2.

Diarrhea is an increase in the frequency of bowel movements or loose watery bowel movements. It can most commonly occur due to an infection of the digestive tract. Megagyl Syrup helps to treat diarrhea that is caused due to bacteria or parasitic worm infections. This medicine can relieve frequent loose motions and also help you to stay well by preventing them from coming back. You should drink plenty of fluids while taking it to make sure you stay hydrated.

In Treatment of Dysentery

Dysentery or amoebic dysentery is a parasitic infection of the intestines that occurs mostly due to intake of contaminated food or water. The symptoms include loose stools (diarrhea), stomach cramps and stomach pain. Megagyl Syrup helps to treat this infection by killing the infection causing parasites. It relieves these symptoms and also helps you to stay well by preventing them from coming back. You need to take this medicine regularly to get the most out of it and you should drink plenty of fluids while taking it to make sure you stay hydrated.

What if you forget to take Megagyl Syrup?

  • Diarrhea can cause dehydration. Drink plenty of fluids to help rehydrate you.

Yes, the use of Megagyl Syrup can cause dry mouth. If you experience dry mouth, drink plenty of water. Take regular sips during the day and keep some water by your bed at night. You may use lip balm if your lips are also dry.

Can I take Megagyl Syrup while breastfeeding?

Megagyl Syrup should be used with caution in nursing mothers as metronidazole passes into breast milk and could give the milk a bitter taste. Although it is not generally expected to be harmful, but you should always consult your doctor before taking Megagyl Syrup.

Take Megagyl Syrup as soon as you remember it. However, do not take it if it's almost time for your next dose. Also, do not take an extra dose to make up for your missed dose.

Can the use of Megagyl Syrup cause metallic taste?

Yes, the use of Megagyl Syrup can cause a temporary metallic taste. This metallic taste can be reduced by chewing sugar-free gum or mints, brushing teeth after the meals and by staying hydrated.

Can the use of Megagyl Syrup cause nausea and vomiting?

Yes, the use of Megagyl Syrup can cause nausea and vomiting. Taking it with milk, food or with antacids can prevent nausea. Avoid taking fatty or fried foods along with this medicine. In case of vomiting, drink plenty of water or other fluids by taking small frequent sips. Talk to your doctor if vomiting persists and you notice signs of dehydration, like dark colored and strong-smelling urine and a low frequency of urination. Do not take any other medicine without speaking to your doctor.
