FAQs
My child is having a genetic deficiency of the G6PD enzyme. Is it safe to give Metnox Suspension?
It is advised that you get your child’s G6PD deficiency evaluated before starting the course of treatment. Avoid giving Metnox Suspension as deficiency of G6PD enzymes can lead to breaking of blood cells resulting in severe anemia.
Can Metnox Suspension be given along with cough and cold medicines?
No, do not give Metnox Suspension with cough and cold medicines. Metnox Suspension can interact with alcohol-containing medicines like cough syrups and cause disulfiram reaction, leading to side effects such as nausea, vomiting, flushing, dizziness, etc.
What if I give excess Metnox Suspension by mistake?
An extra dose of Metnox Suspension is unlikely to cause any harm. But, you must still be vigilant because overdose increases the risk of unwanted side effects such as seizures, tremors, severe headache, sudden weakness, blood cell abnormalities, and rapid and irregular heartbeat. Rush to your child’s doctor on an immediate basis if you notice any of these symptoms. If you think you have given too much Metnox Suspension to your child, immediately speak to a doctor.
What should I do if my child shows no improvement even after taking Metnox Suspension for the prescribed duration?
Speak to your child’s doctor if your child does not show any improvement even after completing the dose. It could mean that the medicine is not able to act against the infection-causing bacteria. Your child’s doctor may change Metnox Suspension and prescribe some other antibiotic which is known to have a stronger impact on the infection-causing bacteria.
Can other medicines be given at the same time as Metnox Suspension?
Metnox Suspension can sometimes interact with other medicines or substances. Tell your doctor about any other medicines your child is taking before starting Metnox Suspension. Also, check with your child’s doctor before giving any medicine to your child.
Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Metnox Suspension?
Antibiotics usually do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a bad reaction in a child who has just been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should not get vaccinated until they recover from the illness. As soon as your child feels better, the vaccine can be given.
What should I tell the doctor before giving Metnox Suspension to my child?
Inform the doctor if your child is suffering from heart disease, genetic disorders involving blood vessels, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (allergy from sunlight), neuromuscular disorders, or rheumatoid arthritis. This is because there is a possibility that Metnox Suspension may aggravate these conditions and result in complications.
