Polio is a life-threatening disease caused by the poliovirus. It can spread from person to person and can infect the brain and spinal cord causing paralysis (unable to move body parts). Poliomyelitis Oral Vaccine gives protection against polio virus. It works by helping the immune system to produce antibodies to fight against the virus. All children need 4 doses of the polio vaccine as part of their routine vaccine schedule starting at 2 months through 6 years of age. However, it is advisable to consult your doctor for complete information regarding vaccination schedules.
