Understanding CBCT Upper and Lower Jaw

What is CBCT Upper and Lower Jaw?

Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is an imaging technique to produce 3- dimensional images of dental structures, soft tissues, nerve paths and bone in the craniofacial region. During CBCT an x-ray beam in the shape of a cone is moved around the patient to produce a large number and better quality images than a normal X-Ray. It is most commonly used for surgical planning for damaged teeth, cephalometric analysis and locating the origin of pain. It also helps in diagnosing temporomandibular joint disorder and aw tumors.

It is advised by a doctor if the information provided by a dental X-Ray is not enough for the diagnosis and treatment.

What is CBCT Upper and Lower Jaw used for?

  1. • CBCT scan is performed when standard dental X-ray imaging is insufficient to detect diseases of the teeth, jaws, facial bones, nasal cavity, and the sinuses • To plan for surgical treatment of damaged teeth • To diagnose temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders • To detect presence of any tumors (abnormal growth) • To assess bone structure and positioning of teeth • To guide positioning of dental implants • To guide any reconstructive surgical procedures
