Understanding Thyroid Comprehensive Package

What is Thyroid Comprehensive Package?

Thyroid Comprehensive Package is a group of tests used to detect thyroid disorders such as hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, or autoimmune thyroid disease in those who are at risk, including pregnant women. This package offers a thyroid profile test and an antithyroid antibodies panel. This package may be recommended when symptoms suggestive of hyperthyroidism (increased appetite, rapid heartbeat, weight loss, or vision changes) or hypothyroidism (fatigue, weight gain, joint or muscle pain, or slowed heartbeat) are noticed. Some people with normal thyroid may have thyroid antibodies which means that they may develop thyroid problems later. Doctors may also advise these tests to track treatment efficacy in thyroid patients. Lifestyle modifications like making healthier food choices and regular exercise are some ways to keep your thyroid gland healthy.

Thyroid Profile Total (T3, T4 & TSH)

A Thyroid Profile Total (T3, T4 & TSH) measures the levels of three hormones in the blood, namely triiodothyronine hormone (T3) total, thyroxine hormone (T4) total, and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH). T3 and T4 are thyroid hormones that help regulate metabolism and energy levels in the body. On the other hand, TSH is produced by the pituitary gland and stimulates the thyroid gland to produce T3 and T4 hormones. The serum levels of the thyroid hormones and TSH have an inverse relationship, i.e., low T4 (as observed in hypothyroidism) and high T4 (as seen in hyperthyroidism) levels are associated with high and low TSH levels, respectively.
